You can't go wrong with any of the food and shopping in Geneva, but here are a few favorites. Nearly everything below is walkable from the cottage. A handful of the parks are a short drive.

Take the Metra into Chicago
Geneva is the second-to-last stop on the Union Pacific West line, so you'll always get a seat. About an hour to Ogilvie Transportation Center downtown, where you can walk or hop the CTA anywhere. Buy tickets in the Ventra app. Weekend trains run every couple of hours, so check the schedule both ways before you go. Grab a fresh churro from Que Buen Churro right at the station while you wait — open from 6 a.m. on weekdays, closed Mondays.

Fox River Trail
Head east on Campbell Street about three blocks to River Lane and you're at the water — a five-minute walk. Island Park, just south, is an easy loop. Two more miles south gets you to Fabyan; north leads to St. Charles.
Mill Race Cyclery — bike and kayak rentals
Sits right on the trail at the Geneva dam. Rents comfort, road, tandem, and electric bikes, plus child trailers, kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. Reserve online ahead of a nice weekend.

Wheeler Park — mini golf and disc golf
Stone Creek Miniature Golf plus The Links, an 18-hole disc golf course through the wooded hills. Disc golf is free and open year-round; rent or buy discs at the mini golf clubhouse. There's a space-themed playground too. North end of town.

Small, well-curated town museum, about an hour to walk through. Open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 to 4. A few dollars to get in, and Tuesdays are free.

The Viking Ship at Good Templar Park
A full-size replica Viking ship that sailed from Norway to the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, now preserved here. Volunteer docents give the tours and they're excellent. Open on limited weekends — check before you go.

Fabyan Forest Preserve & Windmill
Dutch windmill, Japanese garden, and villa museum on the river. Five-minute drive, or a two-mile ride down the trail. Windmill and villa tours are seasonal, weekends only.
Peck Farm Park
Prairie trails and an observation silo you can climb. Butterfly house open in summer. West side of town, about ten minutes by car.
Kane County Cougars
Minor league baseball at Northwestern Medicine Field. Cheap tickets, fireworks nights. Under ten minutes by car.
Geneva French Market — Sundays
Produce, flowers, baked goods, and artisan vendors in the Metra lot, 9 to 2 every Sunday from April through mid-November.
Classic Cars Under the Stars — Thursdays
Thursday evenings 5 to 8 in July and August, behind the historic Kane County Courthouse on Third Street. Classic and muscle cars, live music, food, and free admission. Cancelled for bad weather, so check the Chamber's page that afternoon.
Swedish Days — June. The town's Swedish heritage festival and its biggest week of the year.
Geneva Arts Fair — July. Juried show, artists from around the country.
Concours d'Elegance — August. Antique and classic cars along Third Street.
Festival of the Vine — September. Wine, food, and music downtown.
Christmas Walk — early December. Lights, carolers, shops open late.
